Why the Sky Is Blue

Blue light scatters more than other colors because it has a shorter wavelength. When sunlight hits Earth's atmosphere, blue light scatters in all directions, filling the sky. That's why we see blue.

At sunset, light travels through more atmosphere, scattering away even more blue. That's why sunsets are red and orange.
